Scribblings Of The Tomb Keeper

 Mind Freak (Pt 6)

Kincaid pulled the suv to a slow stop just a half a block away from The Marquette Hotel, the place was still teeming with what he’d recognized as plain clothes men, and the four squad cars in front of the building didn’t help his confidence much either. “If we go in there now that’s the guys that questioned me the last time we were here, they’ll have new questions Sebastian.” the Pire nodded in agreement. “Keep going Jessie, we’ll page his room number by calling the front desk, they’ll have to connect us, we have to meet with Temple someplace else.” He pulled away from the curb and found a phone booth five blocks away the suv stopped and Sebastian got out and went through the phone book and got the number of the Marquette. They drove another two blocks and stopped in front of another hotel called “The Vertigo” much seedier than The Marquette, Sebastian got them a room so they would have a place to meet with Temple. Once upstairs he dialed up the number for The Marquette and immediately got the front desk, he asked for Room 317.. One minute later Avery Temple answered the Phone and Sebastian informed him that there were too many cops at The Marquette and where to come for the files, he agreed and warned them against any tricks, Sebastian smiled to himself, clearly Avery Temple didn’t know who exactly he was dealing with.

He told Kincaid and Selina that Temple was on his way and when he arrived to tell him that Sebastian or Smith would be right back, “get him talking Jess, get his attention away from me, I’m certain that although he himself may not even know it, he won’t be coming alone, I’m certain that this Andrew Milan won’t be far behind, I believe that HE is the key to all of this, and I need time to find him to get some answers.” At 6:55 pm Avery Temple was standing in front of the door of room 110 at The Vertigo Hotel and even with his telekinetic capabilities, he had no clear way of knowing what was about to happen. He knocked softly and slowly, trying to get a scan on the contents of room 110.. He became slightly aggravated when Kincaid convincingly sold him the line about Sebastian’s whereabouts. When inside he paced anxiously back and forth in front of the door, never once taking his eyes off of Selina, “You think me a fool detective? You think that I do not know what She is? What … her…. Father??” his dark green eyes narrowed, and Kincaid knew that in his head Avery Temple was putting things together. He could already feel the pressure in his head slowly building.. Temple was pissed.. But he still couldn’t concentrate on two targets at the same time and sensing Kincaid’s pain, Selina was all over him. she took him off of his feet with little effort moving with incredible strength and speed Physically, he was no match for her but he was catching up fast and eventually had them both in one place and on their knees.. Now he could go to work on them.

When the first drops of blood came from his nose he thought that maybe Temple was getting ready to kill them both, but when the pain suddenly stopped and he saw the blank stare in Avery Temple’s eyes Kincaid knew that there was something else at work there in that room with him and Selina. They both stared in shock and disbelief as Temple’s feet lifted off of the floor a full twelve inches and his hands began to slowly twitch at his sides, but it wasn’t until his eyes rolled back in his head and his body went into violent convulsions that they both realized that Avery Temple’s brain was being crushed and he was dying right before their very eyes. He held Selina close and together they watched his feet slowly return to the floor, blood slowly streamed from the corners of his eyes, nose, ears and mouth, and as he slowly fell forwards face first, his body was lifeless before it had even hit the floor. Shaken they had gathered themselves enough to exit the room and lock the door behind them, even Selina was visibly shaken by what had just taken place. They needed to go find her father and tell him that their only living lead was now dead. Meanwhile some two floors above them, a very calm Andrew Milan was slipping the key into the door of his own room, with Avery Temple now taken care of once and for all he could rejoin his beautiful wife Lilly for a little relaxation at Corbett Lake.. But as soon as Andrew stepped into the doorway he knew that he was not alone, and his telekinesis would do him little good against the man that was waiting for him in the dark room.

 Mind Freak (Pt 5)

Throughout the entire text it would weave in and out about officially whose job it was to do what after the United States government stepped in to take over all operations at Haven Hill.
The name of Doctor William Hastings was mentioned repeatedly, and throughout the entirety of the file was referred to as “The man in charge of all operations.” So it was concluded by Kincaid and Selina that the good doctor was running the whole show and this Avery Temple person was really acting under his command the whole time. It was also concluded that according to what Sebastian told Kincaid about the three murders at Corbett Lake, that Avery Temple did not kill his three targets all at the same time. He must have had to track them down over a one week period concluding with the murder of Thomas Dunkirk in the woods that lye behind the Shady Oak Lodge. Which also meant that there was a very real possibility that Avery Temple and this Andrew Milan person could still be some where in the Corbett Lake vicinity.

When Sebastian returned to the room they were already talking to the local authorities and Selina let Kincaid do all of it, and for the time being he seemed to be getting them out of any serious enquiries. He told them that he was a cop from River City and that Doctor Hastings had agreed to meet him there regarding a private matter concerning a mutual friend and someone shot him through the window before they could conduct the business at hand. He was puzzled at what harm such a nice man as Doctor Hastings could do to cause someone to shoot him, and that he found the whole incident to be quite tragic. He left his cell phone number with one of the detectives doing the Canvas because he knew that his flimsy explanation wouldn’t hold water once the police canvas had reached the hotel staff and they were told about the safe deposit box and of its mysterious contents. So he proceeded to the Suv with Sebastian and Selina, where they had already stashed the stolen Haven Hill files before the police had arrived. He relayed his concerns to the vampire about Temple and Milan, and Sebastian listened intently. He told jess that he was able to track down the location of where the shots were fired from by following the scent of gunpowder residue on the roof of the building across the street from the Marquette Hotel and that he found no trace other than the scent itself that a gun had even been fired there but the scent of gunpowder residue told him otherwise, “You can do that? He asked almost astounded.. “Yes son.. All vampires can do that.”

Upon their return to the Shady Oak Lodge they were warmly greeted by a slightly concerned, yet somewhat relieved Ellie Talbot. She had just finished preparing dinner and said that she would be honored if they would join Henry and herself. Both Sebastian and Selina said that they would be delighted and that they were starving, a thought that made Kincaid more than a little nervous. During dinner he eyed the two vamps cautiously, as Mrs. Talbot served up a delicious evening supper of succulent thick pork chops and apple sauce with golden corn on the cobb with mashed potatoes and gravy no doubt made from the drippings from the pork chops, served with golden flakey home made biscuits and real butter on the side. He curiously watched his bride to be and her father feast on the delicious dinner prepared by Mrs. Talbot, never dreaming that they could actually eat real food,in the one year that he and the lovely Selina had been together he'd never even taken notice of her eating habits and many times had to remind himself that she was a pire. Selina noticed his cautious glance’s at her and her father and gave him a knowing smile followed by a little wink of her beautiful blue eyes.. Sebastian who also noticed the Looks was trying not to smile.. He could only imagine what was going through Jessie Kincaid’s mind right now.. “Who do they think they are eating real food like that? .. HUMANS??” the after dinner mood however was not as light when Ellie Talbot announced that a young black haired gentleman with the most scary looking green eyes came looking for “Mr Smith.” and that he left his name and a note with Henry Talbot at the front desk. As Sebastian read the note his Eyes slowly narrowed, it read: “I know about you and I know that you and the cop will try to stop me, don’t be a foolish man I just know.. We need to talk. Come back to the Marquette, room 317.. Bring the files..”It was signed by Avery Temple.

 Mind Freak (Pt 4)

The blank stare would almost seem to indicate that there was no conscious mind behind the eyes, as Doctor William Hastings didn’t seem to be aware of anything around him except for the eyes of Sebastian Alexander McLain staring back at him. In the short period of time from when he’d vowed not to talk about the Place that was referred to as “Haven Hill,” until the time that the blank vacant look appeared on his face the good doctor didn’t seem to blink once. Kincaid and Selina busied themselves with the contents of the envelopes and were barely paying attention to Sebastian’s interrogation, they had already broken the seals of every envelope and were quite taken in by their contents.
“I…It is a place in the Mountains one hundred and fifty miles from here.. u.. used to be a school for special people.. Telekinetics.. People who could move physical objects with their minds.. Nobody in the agency took it serious though.. n…not right away at least. They sent me down there as an observer to see what was going on there, nobody took it serious.. Not at first..”
“Tell me Doctor, what is this agency?”
“The International Security Agency, I’ve only been with them for two years.”
Sebastian looked at Kincaid, who shrugged his shoulders. “Never heard of it, sounds like some sort of cover up to me.” Sebastian returned his attention to the Doctor who was still mentally absent, Kincaid and Selina returned theirs to the files.

“Doctor. Did something happen at Haven Hill to Change The Agency’s opinion of it?”
“Yes.. There was a serious incident involving one of the more advanced students and one of the orderly’s.. I came out into the court yard behind the school.. Sal… the orderly.. He was suspended into the air about two feet off of the ground… his body….. was… Shaking? ….. Convulsing?…. His eyes were bleeding and.. His nose, mouth…. And both ears.. All bleeding.. and then….. OH MY GOD!!!!! His head… just…. Exploded?
C.. C… Can that really be?… Andrew… my god.. He.. Fell to his knees and passed out.. Exhausted.. Spent… Doctor Elliot came running and they took Andrew and Lilly both away to separate rooms.. Resistance chambers they called them, tele Proof.. Supposedly.. I reported to the Agency what happened and the next day the place was crawling with federal Agents… the potential.. Couldn’t be ignored.. We were going try to reprogram all of them.. Train them as.. N… No… I can’t talk about this.. Please… you don’t understand who you are dealing with…”
Kincaid and Selina were now both at the edge of the bed thoroughly engrossed in every word that Doctor Hastings Spoke..
“Doctor? Have you ever heard the Name Avery Temple?”
“Yes.”
“Who is Avery Temple?’

He began to blink and his eyes were starting to water, he looked up at Sebastian.. He Knew whether consciously or not that he had to finish it.
“Most of the tele’s there turned out to be a bust.. You know they could only do small shit like bending spoons and moving ash trays, you know.. Piddly ass shit like that.. But there were three who … man… so powerful… especially Andrew.. Lilly and Avery
Too.. But mostly Andrew.. They could have been perfect for Mind freak.. Only Andrew and Lilly escaped with Doctor Elliot’s help.. And two weeks ago that traitor Dunkirk stole the files with one of his cronies, we got a heads up that they were headed to Corbett Lake to meet up with some reporter from “The Post” in Washington. They were gonna spill their friggin guts about the whole operation, and to top that off we found communications between him and Andrew Milan, they were gonna meet and Andrew was gonna provide the proof to that reporter that the whole thing was real.. Hell.. The whole thing was falling apart.. So seeing as how the agency was already training Avery for Mind Freak they sent him and me to Corbett Lake to intervene.. Avery was suppose to terminate five Targets which included Dunkirk, Andrew and Lilly and the reporter and that guy that was helping Dunkirk, only he tried to be a bad ass and jumped the gun and only ended up doing three of the targets.. Andrew shows up with Lilly and now Avery is too weak to kill Andrew so he’s forced to run away while I was trying to track down the files.. Oh man.. I’m so.. Like ..dead.. You Know?” Sebastian looked to check Kincaid and Selina’s reactions to the incredible story that they had all just heard.. They were both staring at Doctor Hastings..
“Doctor.. Tell me what were they training the Telekinetics for?”
He lowered his eyes to the floor..
“To become Political Assas-”

Sebastian watched curiously as the small yellow dot appeared on doctor Hastings chest and began to move up towards his forehead, Kincaid jumped from the bed.. NO! Everybody Down NOW!!!! As he leapt to knock Hastings from his seat
Silent gunfire began to rip through the room, Selina stayed behind the bed but was moving to Hastings side as Sebastian and Kincaid moved towards the window to see where the shots were being fired from.. He looked at Selina who was now by Hastings side. She shook her head no.. he was dead.. Kincaid turned to face Sebastian and saw the door to the room was all of the way open and he was already at the end of the hotels hallway and disappeared from view around the corner. Kincaid thought to himself, government or no government.. Someone just pissed off the wrong guy..

 MIND FREAK (PT3 )

They left before it was light outside, Sebastian told Ellie that they had some business in the city and they would be back before nightfall. They all piled into the mid sized Suv and headed east on highway 133, and as they pulled away from the lodge the sun was slowly making its way over the towering pine trees that thickly covered the mountainsides. Golden rays of light spread out over the surface of the water of Lake Corbett, and it briefly resembled a lake of fire, but when the eye’s had adjusted themselves, you could see that it was more like a sheet of glass. Softly mixed orange, red and yellow hues covered the waters surface, that stretched out for what seemed like miles across the valley that the lake was nestled in. Selina was stretched out in the back seat and seemed to be enjoying the view, while Sebastian appeared to be lost in his thoughts, Kincaid did the driving and navigation. It took them about forty five minutes to reach Clarkesville, and another hour or so to locate the Marquette Hotel. As they pulled up in front of the building Sebastian and Kincaid both were taken aback at how new it looked, it had a 1940’s feel to it, and was bustling with business, and as they moved through the two huge double glass doors into the Lobby, two bell hops in little red suit’s almost ran them over.

Kincaid took out his badge and proceeded to the front desk, while Sebastian checked the key card to see which room they were looking for, he pulled at his elbow. “Lets ask the bell hops Jess, They will tell us which floor,” Kincaid nodded, room 512 was on the tenth floor. The room was well kept and nothing seemed out of place, the grey carpet had recently been vacuumed, and the bed hadn’t looked as though it was ever been slept in. Kincaid did however hit pay dirt in the closet as there were a couple of suits hanging there, one tan, one black the black having been recently worn. He checked the pockets and found a pair of reading glasses and a thin brown leather wallet with federal identification inside along with a drivers license with the name Thomas Dunkirk, Sebastian peered over his shoulder, “that’s the guy from the lodge, the third victim.” Selina not quite even sure what she was looking for scoured the bathroom but turned up nothing, finally Sebastian managed to find something in the drawer of the night stand by the bed that was truly interesting, yet another key card with the Hotel Marquette’s logo on it, this one wasn’t for a room. Kincaid looked at it curiously, “Hotel safe deposit box, now we’re getting somewhere.” The three of them returned to the front desk and enquired as to where they might find the hotel’s safe deposit boxes, and the clerk told them to follow him as he lead them down a narrow corridor into the back room and took them to the box according to the number on the card.

He slid the card into the slot and unlocked the box for them, “anything else I can do for you folks?” he gave them a puzzled look until Kincaid presented his badge, “I’m a cop in River city, this is a official police matter, you understand if we require a little privacy?” the desk clerk handed him the box within the box, “yes sir, I understand completely.” they took out three two inch thick Manila envelopes, Kincaid gave a sideways glance to Sebastian, on the face of each envelope was of a official seal that he did not recognize, below it was a confidential stamp posted by the I. S. A. on the face of each envelope read the words “Mind Freak.” They gave each other a puzzled look and decided to return to the room to have a look inside, halfway back Selina noticed someone who looked a little suspicious to her and she quietly alerted her father to the possibility that they were being followed, and Sebastian alerted Kincaid who didn’t appear at all amused. He told them to continue up to the Room while he doubled back to get behind whoever was following them. The only person that he saw was a short stumpy fellow in a tan wrinkled suit, he looked to be about five seven or eight, with slicked back sandy blonde hair he was a little on the heavy side as well, Kincaid guessed that he weighed about two ten or two twenty. He stayed behind him until he saw Sebastian and Selina enter the room and his target move quickly in behind them and produced a hand gun in Sebastian’s face, “step inside Pop’s, and I won‘t hurt you and the pretty girl.” by the time Stumpy fellow figured out that there were supposed to be three of them he was lying face down in the open doorway on the floor with Kincaid’s knee in his back. They drug him inside and he picked him up and sat him down in the chair beside the bed, Sebastian stood at his left his arms folded in front of him, Selina sat on the edge of the bed, while Kincaid stood directly in front of their guest.

He didn’t appear to be intimidated in the least by Kincaid and his two companions. He looked up at them, “You know your in over your heads don’t you? You may as well give me those files before its too late for you to turn back, I mean, after all they are government property.” Kincaid defiantly waved the envelopes under his nose. “ You know what I think Lumpy?” He paused, “I think that Three people maybe more are dead because of what’s in these envelopes, so I think that the cop in me really needs to have a look, besides I haven’t seen your identification showing me that you work for ANY government so as far as I know you could just be some asshole trying to run a scam,.” he fidgeted in his seat and stared strait ahead. “You don’t scare me Detective, I have been trained to withstand intimidation tactics of every sort used during interrogations, a lowly policeman and two civilians are going to bluff information out of me? I don’t think so, you will simply have to do better than that.” He laughed as though taunting them, Kincaid glanced at Sebastian who appeared to be growing more and more agitated by their increasingly rude guest. He returned his attention to the smug little man sitting in front of him, and without warning kicked the chair out from under his backside landing him hard on the floor, he reached into his pocket and removed the wallet and tossed it to Sebastian who began to leaf through it in search of identification.. “Dr William Hastings.. Well Jess, it appears that our friend here is in the medical profession, the Identification card wasn’t issued by the government it was issued by a institute called Haven Hill,” he paused at the sound of the words from his own lips.. “Haven Hill.” Sebastian had heard of this place a long time ago, he was also vaguely familiar with its troubled history, and was well aware of what kind of people were rumored to have lived there, suddenly the look of confusion disappeared from his face, and he slowly approached Dr William Hastings, and leaned over to look at him face to face, “So.. Doctor Hastings is it then? You think you have seen it all do you? Well doctor.. Jessie Kincaid will not be conducting THIS interrogation, I will, and before its conclusion you WILL tell me about Haven Hill.” the doctor uncomfortably tried to squirm away.. “A..And what if I don’t?” Sebastian’s amazing canines began to grow with his anger, as did the sudden look of great concern on the doctors face.. Sebastian wrapped his now ice cold fingers around the doctors throat and lifted him with up great ease, and held him there a full twelve inches from the floor.. “Oh Doctor.” The patience was gone from his voice. “Trust me.. You WILL tell me..

 MIND FREAK (PT2 )

She was as he usually found her on most mornings, as he emerged from his shower, she was naked lying on her belly in the middle of their bed reading the morning newspaper. He bent down to softly kiss the small of her back, while slowly running his hand over her round firm ass, all the while breathing in her magnificent scent. And although they had been together for almost a year now, he still marveled at what an extremely gorgeous woman Selina McLain really was. Aside from the fact that she was about to become his bride, she remained the single most important part of Jessie Kincaid’s existence. She rolled over onto her back revealing the rest of her breath taking body to him, and pulled his head down to meet hers and their lips barely had touched when she slowly slid her tongue inside of his mouth, the phone rang and he slowly pulled his head back slightly to give it an annoyed look. “No baby,” she whispered, “let the machine get it,” he silently nodded and slowly slipped his hand between her thighs, and was lowering his mouth to meet hers, when Sebastian’s voice came over the answering machine, “Kincaid Get off of my daughter and pick up the damn phone!” they both giggled as Jess retrieved the phone from its cradle.

He slowly raised the receiver to his ear and waited for Sebastian’s voice, he brought Kincaid up to speed on what was happening at Corbett Lake, three people met with untimely deaths and although the evidence didn’t support foul play, Sebastian knew better. Two males one female all as of yet unidentified, all found within three miles of each other with traces of blood in the corners of their eyes, nose’s , mouth’s and ears, the coroners report said that all three died as a direct result of brain hemorrhaging. The last one found at the Shady Oaks Lodge was a Male, he had dark hair and blue eyes was of slender build and was wearing a tailor made suit, which spoke to Sebastian of some degree of wealth.. No Identification, all that he had on him was fifty dollars in cash and a bottle of antacids, he told Kincaid that red flags were raised when they tried to run dental records, and were met only with the term “Access Denied” classified information contained in file, which wreaked with the stench of the U.S. government. When asked how he came by this departmental sensitive information, all Sebastian would tell Kincaid is that “he appropriated it” which meant he used his vampire abilities, to steal it out from under their noses, and if the truth be known, the police were probably at that very moment tearing their hair out looking for the very file that Sebastian was reading from. Kincaid told him that he was due four weeks of vacation time from the department in River City and that Selina and him would come to Corbett Lake to see if they could help, he knew Sebastian was there for a reason and it wasn’t going to go away by itself. He and Selina would be driving to the mountains very soon.

It took him a couple of hours to find it, but he felt comfortable that the local police hadn’t even taken to looking for a vehicle that the possible government agent had been driving, and approximately two hours after beginning to scour the small town, Sebastian found a likely candidate in the alleyway behind the bus terminal. And no one seemed to notice him enter the vehicle and begin searching for clues as to the mans identity, he emptied the entire contents of the glove compartment into a plastic bag that had been lying on the floorboard and exited the vehicle and made his way back to the lodge on foot, upon arrival, Ellie Talbot met him at the door and told him that they would be having supper at six pm in the main dining room of the lodge and that she’d hoped that he would be joining them, he smiled and told her that he would, and that he would be having guests arriving in a few hours and that they would be needing a room of their own and to put the extra room on his bill. He returned to his room and emptied the contents of the bag onto the bed and carefully went through them a piece at a time and could find no positive identification, only some scrap papers with a couple of names Scribbled on them, one was the name “Thomas Dunkirk,” and the other was somebody named “Avery Temple.” he did not recognize either of the two names but there was a hotel Key Card for the Marquette Hotel in Clarkesville a town about thirty miles away, he returned the contents back into the bag and lye down on the bed.. He decided to wait for Jess.

When Jessie Kincaid and his bride to be Selina McLain pulled up in front of The Shady Oak Lodge, Sebastian couldn’t help but smile at seeing them together, he greeted them at the front door and firmly shook Kincaid’s hand and hugged his daughter. He took them inside and introduced them both to the Talbot’s, and almost immediately after the introductions were made Ellie Talbot ushered them all into the dinning room for evening supper. Afterwards a bit of small talk was exchanged and Ellie seemed delighted to have Selina in her company, which was a great relief for Sebastian as he needed to get Jessie Kincaid alone to discuss more pressing matters, when they cleared earshot of all of the parties involved except Selina who could probably hear a bug fart from a mile away.. The first order of business for Kincaid was to convince Sebastian to let the local authorities handle the investigation, but he could tell by the look in his eye’s that something was seriously wrong with this whole picture, and Sebastian concluded by telling him that ANY police department that tried to investigate this without help would be seriously in over their heads. He told him that they and Selina had to drive to a place called Clarkesville first thing in the morning, “Selina has to come with us?” Sebastian smiled at his future son in law, “Are you going to be the one to tell her that she can’t?” he gave that last question some serious thought before offering an answer.. “Yeah.. Good point… Dad.” he gave Kincaid a halfway grin, they returned to the dinning room and rejoined Ellie and Selina..
