When Morgan awoke, she could hardly believe her eyes, she was lying in a thick comfortable bed, the room was large and dimly lit by a crackling fire, and she was covered with soft thick blankets of fur, and pillows of the same, and by the fire, tending to a stew pot she saw the monster, leaning over and stirring, and the smell of fresh food, made her stomach growl. " Brewing a stew to cook my bones monster? " she asked, he turned, looked, and walked over to the side of the bed and sat down on the stone floor next to her, and what he did next, she found quite curious, he put his elbow on the bed, and rested his whiskered chin on his massive palm, his eyes, she noticed, were not red at all but as blue as crystal, they began to light up as a curious smile spread across his lips, he paused, " a man though I have always been child, a monster, I'll never be!" He told her that his name was Foaksil, and he'd lived in the North Woods his whole life, when he was a child, dark days reigned, wars raged, and soldiers of great army’s came and went, and one day the soldiers waged their war on the North Woods, and stole his family away forever, and Foaksil had been alone every since. They sat and talked, and as the evening wore on, they broke bread and dined on rabbit stew, and soon Morgan realized, why, Foaksil wasn't a monster at all, he was but a gentle giant, that was simply thought to be a monster. And before they slept, Foaksil told her his theory, " child, monsters indeed be real, but not all are as they would appear, some have four legs, others have two, whilst others too that hide in the forms of men, these men we know do the biddings of greed and lust, and trespass upon the virtues of women, and steal the innocence of children, indeed child! it is so! for it is not always what appears to us on the outside that makes a man a man, but ah! the malice that lives in a mans heart, now, that there is what makes a man a monster!! " they both laughed out loud and shared more stories, until finally Morgan grew sleepy, Foaksil tucked her in and gently brushed her hair from her face, knelt down and softly whispered " sleep well child, there be no monsters here tonight, tonight, there be only Foaksil." He returned to his large wooden chair by the fire, and listened for a time to the driving winds and rain outside, never suspecting the danger of the rapidly rising river creeping its way towards his door.
He awoke when he felt the water around his feet, and right away he knew that the river had ran over its banks, and the woods would soon be under water, he rushed to Morgan's side, where he wrapped her sleeping body tightly in her blanket, he pulled her to his massive chest, and fought his way through the rising water, and outside into the driving wind and rain. The wind and rain blew strong and fierce, and had almost took him off of his feet more than once, but Foaksil held firm, and pulled Morgan tightly to him, and pushed on through the rising waters to safety. When he'd reached the trees, he slowed to catch his breath, for the wind and rain in the trees was not as strong, but soon, Foaksil heard yet another familiar sound, the sound of angry men, come looking for a lost child. When they saw him, they didn't realize that he was holding the child, and had begun to throw rocks, Foaksil tried to yell, but could not even hear his own voice for the howling winds, he had turned his back to them to shield Morgan's body from the rocks, but when he tried to retreat, the raging river had caught them and now he was trapped. He tried desperately to push for higher ground, but the angry river persisted, and had washed away the soil beneath his feet, and when the next rock struck his face, Foaksil lost his balance, and fell into the raging torrent. The only thing that had saved them from being washed away, was he grabbed a hold of a single tree branch and held on to it, with all of his strength he fought, and when he looked up and saw the arms reaching through the darkness, Foaksil did not hesitate, with his free hand he held the girl above the water, and with his last bit of strength, Foaksil thrusted young Morgan into the waiting arms of her father, and Tak helplessly watched the giant lose his grip, and the current pulled the helpless Foaksil away, his body slowly disappeared beneath the surface, and the river took him for its own.
Days had passed, and slowly life returned to somewhat normal for young Morgan, and on occasion people would ask about her struggles with the great monster, Morgan would shake her head and smile, "foolish children," she would tell them " there be no monster's there are only evil men!" And the fourth morning of prayer of each month she would rise early and go to the garden and cut two rose's, her father would then join her, and together they would hold hands and walk through the North Woods to the cottage where her friend Foaksil had once lived. Tak would silently watch as his daughter placed the first rose in the doorway in the gentle giants memory, the other, she would take to the edge of the now calm river, she could often close her eyes and still hear that gentle whisper carry on the breeze, " sleep well child , tonight there be no monster's here, tonight there be only Foaksil. " she lowered her last flower into the water, and the gentle current pulled it away, she watched it slowly disappear beneath the surface, and the river took the rose for its own. FIN.

I know That I've been doing a lot of reposting here lately, but there are some things that I enjoy revisiting every once in awhile. this was one of those things.. a home made fable if you will..
The dark brooding presence of the large thick groves of blackened trees and mist covered ground, had long kept the mysteries of the North Woods secret from the outside world. Fearful whispers of its evil ominous appearance, only fueled the wild tales of the mythical beasts and monsters that dwelt there deep in the dark recesses of its heart. Such tall tales became the topic of legend and lore, and even the bravest souls dare not travel its darkened paths, for the monsters there in its shadows, lye in wait for such a soul, as they may waylay you, and drag your body into the woods dark cold misty heart, and make you its evening meal, "Your bones for bread, be their bread from bone, may you never stray into the woods alone." For the village of Krea, in the daylight hours, life there seemed normal to the untrained eye, its tiny dirt streets bustling with commerce, local street vendors bartering their wares, farmers peddling their crops, and the tiny shop merchants plied their trade. but it wasn't until the sun had begun to set, that life there took a dark tone, for the village of Krea stood in a clearing, no more than one hundred yards from the North Woods, and the beasts waiting for darkness to come, for years had been known to cast their hungry stares upon the women and children of the small village. For Tak and Soma Luks their daughter Morgan had lived life no differently than any other ten year old child, she did her school work and chores, and when the completion of such tasks would allow her the luxury, she would indulge her childish whims, by running and playing in the wildflowers in the meadow, chasing butterfly's and lady bugs, all of the while under the watchful eyes of her mother Soma, for as long as she stood watch, Soma knew the woods that lye just beyond the meadow, could never claim her daughter.
On the morning of prayer, Morgan's day started much like every other, her mother dressed her in a beautiful blue dress, and had adorned her long black silken locks with ribbons and bows, and with her big blue eyes shining as brightly as the sun itself, young Morgan fancied herself a princess in her favorite fairy tale. Her mother had told her to wait by the front stoop of the cottage, for her father to return from his morning business, and had told her not to stray, but the beautiful allure of a butterfly, is much too much for a child's curiosity to resist, and the beauty of the graceful insect lured her away from the stoop, and led her around the side of the cottage, and through the backyard, across the meadow, and finally into the darkened pathways of the North Woods. It wasn't losing sight of the insect that made her stop and look around, but it was the dark storm clouds looming high above the towering trees, it was the distant sounds of bellowing thunder, deep and ominous echoing through the woods that quickened her pulse, for it was then that Morgan realized, she was lost. She had suddenly remembered all of the stories of the terrible things that lived there, and too, of the horrible things they did to little girls, and when she heard the heavy sounds of footfalls crumpling through the leaves in the distance, she became very affraid. And when she had actually saw it for the first time, it was frightning, though only seven feet tall, it may as well been thirty, its huge body was broad at the shoulder, and its hand and fingers were as thick as small tree limbs, and long black hair thick and matted fell past its broadened shoulders, with jutting jaws and jagged teeth, its eyes as red as flowing blood itself, sat beneath its furrowed brow. It was absolutely the most horrible thing young Morgan had ever seen, and in her panic she tried to run, but tripped and fell, hitting her head on a rock, images in the tree tops swirled to and fro, and the thunder rolled and roared, and she closed her eyes tightly as if to will it all away, but when she openned them, the monster stood above, and its massive hand reached down towards her, and then she saw nothing.
To Be Continued.

This is something I'm just trying, it is a repost of the second post I made on Echoes From The Tomb back in september 2005, I'm calling it my first cross posting. some people may have read before others may not have either way, I hope you enjoy it..
THE SOCIAL EDGE.. I sometimes go out at night when I can't sleep, Carson City for the most part being a twenty four hour town, can provide a lot of ways for a person to amuse themselves, anytime day or night, casinos and nightlife, along with a lot of desperate people on the prowl for human flesh. Myself, I prefer to be alone, it suits me, some people it seems, will sacrifice almost anything for the sake of human contact, while others like me are quite content existing on the edges of the social stratosphere that society seems to have created for itself. You won't find a whole lot of company out here on the edge, but those of us who live out here, find the view breath taking. So anyhow, I'm sitting in this casino bar, at this little out of the way table, the beer is cold ( which is always a good thing, ) it's dark and cozy, honey, I'm home. And the game is afoot, from across the room, a young man has spotted a potential target, his eyes meet hers, and for a brief moment they connect, seconds later they somehow manage to meet somewhere in the middle, she gives him a coy look, followed by a quick seductive smile, all of the while studying his every move for any signs of weakness. Together, they find an empty table, to sit, share drinks and exchange personal information, the night ends, and together, the happy couple takes a bow and then exit the stage. The rest of the story is purely speculation, but has been played out a million times over, they go to his place and have a few more drinks, they talk about having sex ,and then do, only to wake up the next morning hung over and still half drunk, wondering who in the hell that person lying next to them is. In conducting the business of life, we as a society have grown impatient, we want everything now, and it seems at times as though the real consequences of the hasty decisions that we make , have become little more than an afterthought. We are afforded every luxury that our technology can provide for us, portable cell phones, fast cars, fast food and even faster lives, and our senses are bombarded on a daily basis by overwhelming images of money, sex and power, and it is the pursuit of these images that keeps pushing us towards our goals at warp speed, leaving us with precious little time to spend on developing any real social skills. We don't even have the time to stop and communicate with each other anymore, and when such attempts are made, what spews from our mouths couldn't even pass for gibberish, let alone English or any other language for that matter, the faster that we make progress, the faster we can move on to the next conquest. And through it all what seems to suffer the most is our human dignity. If fate truly holds in store for us, some form of poetic justice, simple observation may provide us with some valuable clues as to what that justice might be, maybe if we contenue down the path that we presently on we may eventually end up right back where we started from, a small group of scared people huddled in a circle, in a cold and very dark place out in the middle of nowhere, with each person wondering, which one of them will be brave enough to take that first step towards the light.
